Welcome to the waterfront--to Thea's Park, the Seaport Museum and Tacoma Rail--to celebrate what the working waterfront means to each of us!
2010 Marks the 18th year where a dedicated band of volunteers who love Tacoma's maritime trade, boatbuilding and fishing heritage come together to "Celebrate the Working Waterfront!" We invite you to board boats and trains, build or paddle boats, paint, create sand sculptures, learn Tacoma's Thea Foss history and "touch the water!"
Tacoma has more than 50 miles of shoreline. It shapes who we are as a community. We walk along Ruston Way, we boat and fish from Alaska to Olympia, our furnishings, food and toys come on ships from Asia to the Port of Tacoma. 150 years ago Tall Trading ships came to Tacoma to load logs and lumber needed to build cities up and down America's West Coast. Our people have lived on these shores for generations or have come recently from lands around the world. Tacoma also connects with nations around the world through its eleven Sister Cities. Innovations, customer service, ingenuity and creativity have built Tacoma's reputation as a great maritime city. We're here to celebrate that!
